Mary's summary of an Egyptian Myth.

Walt: Write an information report

Pyramids

The Egyptians believed that once that have died they would have an afterlife. Afterlife is a place where the dead could roa forever and forever.A priest touched the mummy’s mouth with a special instrument, so that the dead could eat and speak in the afterlife. But not everyone were mummified and put into a pyramid. It was based on the death on the royal people.

Before putting the dead person into a coffin, there was a process needed. You had to wash the dead body. Next the inside of the body was taken out of them and put into 4 special jars. Then the brain was pulled out through the nose. A pile of salt were set out around the corps. Then the insides were stuffed with rags and herbs. Finally rubbed with oil and wrapped with bandages.

The pyramid of Giza is believed to have taken 20 to 30 years. It was believed to use about 2,300,000 blocks of stone. Also about 100,000 slaves. It took about 10 years to build a cause connecting the pyramid to a temple and a valley below. It was 480 feet high and 750 feet long each side.

Pyramids are not in one place, they are scattered all around Egypt. Pyramids are distributed to the Upper and Lower parts of Egypt. The pyramid of Giza, one of the seven wonders is still standing. It stands on the outside of Cairo. Also along the Nile river.

The first pyramid was built by a king called sneferu. He became king as a young man. He had many years to live that made him have plenty of time to make not just one but three pyramids in two different places in Egypt. One at Meidum and two at Dashur.

Crystal's report on Pyramids

Walt: write an information report.

The Egyptians built the Pyramids because when the Pharaohs died they would place the body into the pyramids. It was the final resting place for the Pharaoh. The Egyptians would also leave precious things for him like gold, jewellery and much more.

The embalmers (people who looked after the dead corps) would wash the body. Then after that the embalmers would take out all the insides and put them into four special jars. Afterwards, the embalmers would put sacks of salt around the corps and dry out the body. Then finally wrapped the mummy with bandages. These mummies were places in the pyramids as the final resting place.

It is believed that it took about 20/30 years for the slaves of Egypt to build the Great Pyramid of Giza. The Great pyramid is located on the Giza plateau. It is roughly, 21 km south west of Cairo and on the west bank of the Nile River.

Chase's report on Pyramids of Giza

Walt:write an information report.

The pyramids were built because when the pharaoh dies the Egyptians would put him into a tomb then finally put him into the pyramid. The pyramid was built over 2000 years before Christ. The pyramid was built to protect the pharaoh’s body.

The Great pyramid was built for Pharaoh Khufu.  King Khufu ruled Egypt for over 20 years.

Khufu’s pyramid was built in Giza. It was built on a plateau. The pyramid was built away from Cairo. The pyramid entrance was always in the north. The pyramid was part of other buildings.

The pyramids height was almost 7 metres high. The Egyptians used 2,300,000 limestone blocks. The pyramid was the tallest structure before the Eiffel Tower was built.

People are allow to go into the pyramid. You have to be fit to go in the pyramid because the tunnels are skinny. Mostly tourist explore the giant pyramid. Inside the pyramid is very small. Khufu’s pyramid was one of the seven wonders.

Devonn's information report on Pyramids

Walt : write an information report.

The pyramids were built in ancient Egypt because the Egyptians believed in after life they thought that if they made the pyramids the dead would roam around . The Egyptians would go and see them and put their favourite things next to their tomb so they would remember when they come back and it was the pharaohs last resting place.

The pharaohs was preserved by firstly washing the dead body. Next the embalmers took the body’s insides out. After that the embalmers put salt around the body to dry it out. Then the embalmers stuffed the body with saw dust or rags and sweet smelling herbs. Finally the embalmers rubbed the body with oil and wrapped the body in cloth then they finally put the body into the tomb and then into the pyramid.

The pyramid of Giza took 20 to 30 years to build . It was 450 feet high and 756 feet long. It took 100,000 slaves to make it. The ancient Egyptians built their pyramids on the west bank of the river Nile. This was because the Egyptians linked the west with death, as this was where the sun set. The site had to be far enough away from the river to avoid flooding, but close to the materials so it could be transported to it.

Saloma learns about Habu the slithering snake

Habu is a slithering snake, Najud is a hawk, Yasmine is a crocodile and Hamse is the elephant.

Habu had a loud hiss that warned other animals that he was coming so the animals could run away and hide. They were afraid of Habu’s loud hiss sound. Habu noticed that whenever he slithers by all the animals disappeared. He did not understand why. Habu wouldn't hurt any of them. He was afraid of several of them. Habu was terrified of Hamse. He didn’t want to be crushed by Hamse huge legs. He was also afraid of Najud. If Najud fly overhead and see Habu Najud would swoop down and scoop him up in Najud’s beak and take Habu to Najud’s nest and eat Habu. Also Habu is terrified of Yasmine. One bite from Yasmine sharp teeth and he’d be bit in half.

One day as Habu was scooting across the hot sand he noticed that the wind was beginning to blow. He looked up and saw a wall of sand moving towards him. He hissed loudly and slithered off looking for somewhere to get protection from stinging blow sands. Suddenly he bumped right into something. It was hard. He went around it feeling it with his long scaly body and flickering tongue. He crawled up inside of it. It was filled with ripe figs. He slunk down under them and hid. He could hear little grains of sand pelting against the wooden bowl as the wind howled. Habu dozed off. He felt sleepy from all the dust in the air. He slept for hours.

Habu woke up. He yawned and opened his eyes. He wasn’t in the bowl anymore. He was near out the river. He wondered how he’d gotten there. Just as he was about to slither off. Yasmine the crocodile came crawling out of the water. Her Jaw was wide open. All Habu could see was Yasmine’s sharp teeths. Habu quickly slithered away.

Matthew learns about Wylie

Wylie lived in ancient Egypt. Wylie was waiting for the sand storm to die down so he could go hunting for food. He thought about what to eat, a fish from the Nile river, a juicy lizard, a slithering snake, a plump or even a furry fennec fox. When Wylie flew up in the sky, Wylie saw a lizard but when he scored down to catch it, it ran away between big rocks. Wylie sat on the top of a pyramid and he was starving. He got hungrier and hungrier.

Wylie was soaring through the skies looking for food but he saw sand from the sand storm. Wylie sat on a pyramid and looked at the people. Wylie saw a fish from the from the Nile river and he flew down and caught it. And he ate it and he wasn't hungry any more.

Alisi Technology of Toys

Technology - Toys
Walt: make a toy.

My toy was an oscillating bird. The bird was out of thin cardboard such as a breakfast box or poster board. The bird is at the top of the rubber band, when it goes down it goes in a back and forth motion. My toy was the smallest one in the Room 11 class. The materials was easy to get, I just needed a cereal box , rubber band, straw and felts to colour it. My toy was really simple to make. At the end, Mr. Hendricks judged all of our toys. He picked three toys that was innovative and creative. The top three were Britney, Matthew and Mikayla.

This is my toy.
My toy’s mechanism is pulley.

Alisi Glen Innes School

Walt: write in paragraphs.

Glen Innes

Glen Innes school, when I think about it. I think how different it is from others, such as it’s playgrounds, teachers, learning styles. As our school motto say: ‘A caring, innovative and fun learning environment’.

Caring
Glen Innes is a very caring school. Like for example, a student didn’t bring any lunch to school. In other schools they will just simply call the parent. But in Glen Innes school someone will just make that particular student a sandwich. In Glen Innes School there is also a event that a teacher plans which is the whole school has breakfast or lunch.

Fun
Every year there is G.I’s Got Talent. It is a very similar to American Idol and Britain’s got talent . It is fun for both the audience and competitors. Just recently we celebrated Race Relations Day. Almost everyone dressed in their cultural outfits. Some students even made a little speech in their language. There was also some performances.

Innovative
The senior classes have netbooks, unlike other schools. Also, at the moment we are training to go sports camp. We also take consideration of our students ideas.

Environment
Our environment is nice and clean.

All in all Glen Innes School is great.

Mikayla Glen Innes School

Walt: write in paragraphs.

Glen Innes School is an educational school and it has friendly teachers that will help you with anything. This school is the right school for any children to learn.

For me, Glen Innes School is the most caring school ever. I know that because I have been here for six years. I have stayed at this school since I was year one to now. I love all of the teachers and I see them everywhere in Glen Innes. My favourite teacher would have to be Mr Ramkolowan because he is always there when I am down. If someone gets hurt or has an accident Miss Mary will spend her time fixing them up.  I think that our school is very caring.

My school is really fun because we have the most funniest teachers and children. Our school is really fun because we have activities that are motivational and funny. Our school is fun because we have a swimming pool of our own. We have a show that is called GI has talent and last of all we have a day that is really important to us, Race Relations Day. So that is why we have the most fun school ever.

Glen Innes School is very original and innovative . We have netbooks that help us with our education. We have new ideas every day and we always think of good ways to act. The year 7’s and 8’s are planning to have a Sports Camp in September. There was a very fun day when Room 11 had made a toy and it had to roll, but the thing is that it didn’t roll that far, so the next week Blade had figured out a very good idea. It was to use the blow dryer, but the wind was too hard and it wouldn’t work.

The children at Glen Innes School has been taught a really important thing about life. Picking up rubbish and caring about the environment. We have a worm farm that we own. We recycle, reuse and we feed the worms. At school Mr. Naidoo has the job of looking after the worm farm and he makes sure that they produce worm tea for our gardens. All the classes have a garden that we look after and we plant seeds to grow more vegetables.

So to me I think that Glen Innes School is the most Caring, Funny and Innovative School ever.

Britney,Glen Innes School

Glen Innes School is an amazing, appealing, and adventurous school. It has incredible achievements.

Glen Innes School is a really caring school. In the 8 years I’ve been here, the staff has given and supplied food to those that didn’t have without hesitation. Breakfast is offered to those that don’t have breakfast. But most of our students have their breakfast before they come to school.

Our school is a very active and amusing. We all enjoy swimming, learning, and building up our stamina in our school swimming pool. We also have G.I’s got talent to showcase everyone's talents from singing, dancing and playing their favourite instrument. Also we have laughable shows. Some of our students actually get to act in them.

We are innovative. Meaning original and different. This year 33 students from rooms 11 and 12 are being chosen to show their skills in many codes of sports. We are all looking forward to that. Also the learning on our netbooks. In has helped many of us in our academic and sports work. And also the school acknowledges the students with their new ideas. For example we had made a stunt wheel with the mechanism of wind. A student called Blade Howell had a wonderful idea, to use the leaf blower and see how the stunt wheel reacts to it.

Our environment is clean and healthy. we have fresh and lovely vegetable gardens that we use for fillings in sandwiches. And we have containable grass. Also around of school hall and our school sign we have lovely flowers of different colours.

For the many years this school is around it will have a lot more interesting, fun, innovative ideas. And many more awesome achievement.

Mary Reflections of Term 1 learning

Walt: reflect on my learning.

My reflections for term 1

This week we had to do three tests. We had tests on number and measurement, geometry and  statistics and also reading.

On Tuesday I had a reading test. I got a 3B on my reading which was awesome because I’m improving. I know the different language used in poetry and figurative speech and make use of previous knowledge. Next term I will have to work on finding and retrieving information. I will work on my gaps by doing my homework and reading more books to help me understand why the author wrote the story.

After the reading test we did the number and measurement test. In this test I got a 4B which means I can go to the green group for maths. I did really well with using equations to represent practical situations and continue the order of the pattern and write the rule. I have to work to devise a strategy to solve a whole number problem and to work on making sensible statements about a statistical investigations. I will try and do homework to get better.

Today we  did a test in geometry and statistics. I got a 3B and I was so proud of myself because I thought that I forgot how to do geometry and statistics but when it came to the test I remembered everything. I did really well on describing the features of 2D and 3D objects using the language of geometry and designing and making pattern using translation, reflection and rotation. In geometry and statistics I have to work on  grid references. I will improve by trying my best with the homework and getting help from others.

For term two my goal is to get above national standards and try to get 4A.

Claudia Reflections of Learning for Term 1

Walt: reflect on my learning

My Reflections for term 1

I need to get to the next level next term. I want to be a star learner and not fail anymore. For the last week of term 1, our class did 3 tests, to see where we actually are.

For my reading, I think I did great, but I am just below the national standards. Our test was based on comprehension for reading.  In reading, my level is 3P. I did well by knowing the authors purpose, I can read quickly and scan fast for the information, and I can understand what the words mean. I need help with placing the punctuations in the right place. I also need help on knowing what the new words mean. I will improve by, doing my homework when we come back to school. I want to be good at reading.

For maths we did numbers and measurement. I scored 2A, which is disappointing. I've got to try hard next term, even better than this term. I did great at factorizing and explaining algebra questions. I also did great in answering perimeter and area questions. I need help with making up a story to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. I didn’t do great on solving whole numbers and decimal problems. I will ask the teacher, if I don’t understand.

In geometry and statistics, I think I did well. Overall I got 3P, and that’s alright. I did very good at making statements about data shown in a statistics display. I am also good at describing 2D and 3D objects using geometry language. I don’t know how to make sensible statements about a statistical investigation. I also need help with drawing and explaining simple scale maps. I can improve by paying more attention to the teacher.

My goal for next term is to focus on my work, and not focusing on my friends. My other goal is to reach the national standards, and be very intelligent. I want to be ready for college.

Daroma Reflections of learning

walt: reflect on my learning.

In my reading I had a 2P.I just need to do more work on  reading the words easily.

For Maths I have to learn my 2 5 and 10 times table.

Arihi Reflections of term 1 learning

This week room 11 did an e-asttle test.

For Geometry and statistics I got a 2A. I have to learn how to describe the shapes and also describe 3d objects using geometry language, I also need to know my symmetry and a little bit more of my angles. I was able to draw and explain a simple scale map, design and make a pattern using translation reflection and rotation. My gaps are to  name  objects in  geometric language. I would like help on how to describe 2D and 3D shapes.

For next term I would like to learn how to name an angle and I would try to get everything right on my next e-asttle test and the next basic facts test and if I get it wrong I will keep trying untiI get it right and get to where I'm supposed  to be.

Chase's Term 1 Reflections on Learning

Reading

In reading my overall was a 2P which was disappointing for me because it wasn’t above the national standard. I did not achieved much. I had no gaps in reading. I need to achieved lots of things.  I got a 2A in ideas and deep thinking. For the rest I got a 2P, except for one. The thing I need to achieve is to make links between different parts of the text. I need to listen what my teacher is talking about so that I can be at the national standard.

Maths
I was below the national standard and I wasn't impressed with myself. For my overall  result I got a 3P. My gap was to use equations to represent practical situations. I need to learn to sketch and interpret graphs which represent everyday situations.
For geometry and statistics I got a 3B. I was below the national standard. I think my parents won’t be impressed with my work. I need to learn to draw and explain simple scale maps. I want to get a 4B at everything so that my parents will be proud of me. If I listen then I might get a 4B. My gap was to describe situation represented by statistical  data displays. I have achieved designs and making
patterns using translation, reflection and rotation.

For next term I hope that I get a 4B in my reading and maths.

Matthew's Foods from around the World

WALT: make dish from around the world

Food from around the world

Every Monday the year 7 and 8 students of Glen Innes school go to technology. The year seven’s go to ICT and the year eight’s go to food technology. I am a year 8. We made lots of stuff like Pee Supo, Butter chicken, eggs benedict, chop suey, a burgers and other stuff. The dish the I liked was the burgers. The dish that I didn’t like was the chop suey with the potato salad.
