Crystal :Prevention is better than Cure

Walt: respond to the presentation given by the Public Health Dept..

This morning we went to a special assembly. It was all about rheumatic fever. Special guests came to our school, Awen Guttenbeil, a few Warriors League team players and nurses like Elizabeth and Kristy. They were all here to tell us about how to prevent rheumatic fever than to cure it.

Rheumatic Fever starts with a sore throat.  The nurses and Dr Alison Leversha that planned this whole thing explained what is rheumatic fever and how you can stop it from happening. Nurses do something very simple to see if you have Rheumatic Fever and they take a swab of your throat.

The Vodafone Warriors helped by doing the swab test. That was very funny and very convincing too. Even the Warriors were telling us kids to tell our parents, doctor or even a public school health nurse. It’s as simple as that.

Awen Guttenbeil told me personally about his experience with rheumatic fever. One day he was lying in bed and he said he couldn't move. He felt paralysed. It was hard for him to walk. That has also happened to me once. I admired Awen because, he didn't let that affect his normal life. Awen took treatment for 10 years. Then finally he was back to normal.

I regret not telling my parents that I had a sore throat way back then. But  I have been  receiving treatment for 10 years and I do what other normal 12 or 13 year old do too.

This game was called Multiplication Model. Firstly, you have to know your times tables. That’s all that this game needs. I found this game very easy. I enjoyed it too because afterwards you got to dress up the models that the game gave you. The next game I would like to play next is a game division.

The Egyptians built the Pyramids because when the Pharaohs died they would place the body into the pyramids. It was the final resting place for the Pharaoh. The Egyptians would also leave precious things for him like gold, jewellery and much more.

The embalmers (people who looked after the dead corps) would wash the body. Then after that the embalmers would take out all the insides and put them into four special jars. Afterwards, the embalmers would put sacks of salt around the corps and dry out the body. Then finally wrapped the mummy with bandages. These mummies were places in the pyramids as the final resting place.

It is believed that it took about 20/30 years for the slaves of Egypt to build the Great Pyramid of Giza. The Great pyramid is located on the Giza plateau. It is roughly, 21 km south west of Cairo and on the west bank of the Nile River.

What is your favourite sport and why?
Rugby league, because my dad put me into it and it’s a lot of fun as well.

If you had a chance to do anything in the world what and why would you do ?
Travel the world. To see other cultures and try different foods.

What is your opinion on sports camp?
It’s sounds fun, and you get to stay with your friends for a week. Last but not least you don’t have to get in trouble from your parents or clean up the house.

Tell me what you would prefer chocolate or ice cream, why?
Ice cream, because its  yummier and it has more flavours than chocolate.

What college do you think you’re going to?What kind of question its that? Well, I think I might be going to Selwyn.

Its there any place in the world you would like to go, and why ? America. I want to see live basketball games and Music Awards.

Who is your favourite pop star and why?I like Tyga. I think Tyga has a cool way of rapping. His rappes are cool!
What is your favourite animal and why?
Obviously a Tiger, because its named after my favourite pop star.

Explain what you enjoy at school.I enjoy, P.E, maths, most of the inter schools events like playing touch and  basketball. Hanging out with my friends is also fun.

And the last question, what is your date of birth?     (laughing) umm, December the third 2000.

Walt: to write a report on our survey

A few weeks ago I decided to find out “Who is your favourite teacher in Glen Innes School?” I used excel to draw my 3D graph. My data was represented in a column graph, it was a bit tricky but I got the hang of it. My target group was the seniors of our school.

I took the survey sheet around myself and personally asked them. 25 children were surveyed. I surmised that Mrs Barry is the most popular teacher. Mr Ramkolowan was the 2nd favourite teacher but the least favourite teachers were Mrs Webster, Mrs Manu and Mr Naidoo.

I think that most of the children chose Mrs Barry because she is the Sports Teacher and she is very fun to be around, hilarious and is very good at making connections with children.
