Viliami Basic Facts of Division

Screenshot 2015-03-24 at 10.07.32.png.
This is a game called Pop Up and this is all about division. In Pop Up I have to answer the questions to get the diamonds into the cave box. It is cool to play. When I played, I found it difficult. I did not use my multiplication facts. I used my fingers to solve the problem. I know my tables so I need to use them to solve division problems.

Samuel Powhiri At Point England

WALT:write a recount.

Yesterday, most of our school and other schools walked to Pt. England.  There was going to be a Powhiri.  We all had to go there to learn from academic people who arrived there.  There were people that came from Hawaii and arrived in a waka.

First, most of our school had to got ready for a walk down to Pt. England.  We had to arrive at 8:30 because we had to leave at 8:35.  Any students that arrive after 8:35 had to stay at school with the juniors.  Some of the students could come by a parent or by car as well because they were invited to watch the Powhiri.

Next, we arrived at Pt. England.  There were many schools that came to this Powhiri.  Some schools had students that used to come to our school.  There already was a waka at Pt. England but there was a second waka coming.  There were people and students on the beach.  Some of our school students were on the beach to sing.  They were Robin, Andrea and Jazire.

Finally, the waka came.  We sang and danced to E oho ra e.  We sang and danced to it until the people on the waka set foot on the beach.  Then we sang Nga waka.  After that we sang a song I think about the maori people.  One of the people on the beach said a prayer.  Then the people on the beach told all of the schools to line in the school and high five the people on the beach.

Many schools went to the powhiri.  There were about 2300 students at Pt. England.  It was really cool there because we saw many schools and learned things about learning.

Lauren - Positioning Fractions on the Number Line

Fractions.png

Walt: Position fractions on the number line.

In this game you have to place the fractions on the number line. This was a little bit hard for me because I didn't really get this number line. My teacher gave me more examples then I started to understand it more. I really liked playing this game because it was fun and interesting. I managed to put them all in the correct positions to go to the next stage. I would like to learn more about number lines. The next thing I want to learn is my decimals.

Shanelle- St Patrick's Day

Walt: explain the legend of St Patrick

St Patrick
Do you believe that St Patrick was born in Ireland? Well he was actually born in Britain in the time of 387 AD. Another fact was that St Patrick real name was Maewyn Succat. His parents, ( Calphurnius and Conchessa ) were a high ranked Roman family.

At the age of sixteen St Patrick was captured by Pagan Irish raiders. He was a slave for Meliuc. He lived in Ireland. St Patrick was a shepherd for his master. He had dreams about god and he then strongly believed in him. St Patrick soon escaped and head out to follow his dreams. He wanted a ship to sail him away to freedom.

He returned back to his family. He then considered himself as a Irish because that is the place where he found god. He then had a vision about him turning all the Irish into Christians. In 432 AD, St Patrick became a bishop by Pope Celestine. He was soon named “Patritius”. That means father of the people.

There was some other magical and miracle legends that he was in. He had fights with  druids. He also was confronted by a chieftain named Dichu. Dichu lifted his sword and as he was about to injure St Patrick, his hand became rigid.

There are two versions of how St Patrick made the snacks leave Ireland. He used a wooden staff and lead the snakes into the sea and they were banished. The other version is that he tricked the snakes into a small box and he then threw them out to sea. The shamrock explains about the trinity-father, son and the holy spirit. The shamrock ( known as the 3 leaved clover  ) is the national plant of Ireland. It is not the national emblem because the harp has that title.

For 28 years, St Patrick has been spreading word of god. In 462 AD he died on the  seventeenth of March at the age of 76. The original colour of St Patricks day was blue until it was changed to green.

Did you know that Patrick is British? He was born in 387 AD in Wales. His real name is Maewyn Succat. His parents are Calphurnius and Conchessa they come from a Roman family. St Patrick didn't like the attitude of British towards the Irish.

At the age of sixteen he was kidnapped by pagan Irish raiders and sold to a chief. He spend his teen years alone as a shepherd. In this time he became religious. Then he escaped to follow his dream. His dream was to find a ship and get freedom. When he escaped he went back home to his family in Britain but he consider himself as Irish..

There are many legends linked to St Patrick. He had miracle magical fights. He was fighting with Dich. Dich drew his sword at Patrick but could not do as so because his arm became stiff. There is also a legend of him driving the snakes out of Ireland. There are two tales about Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland. Some tales tell that he stood on a hill and used a wooden staff to drive the snakes into the sea and banished forever from Ireland. Some tales tell that he tricked the snakes into a small box and cast them into the sea.

Patrick had a vision. He wanted to preach Christianity. He visited St Germain and he went on tours to Sanctuary Lains. In 432 AD he became a bishop by Pope Celestine. He got baptised and his name was then changed to Patricius but Patrick for short.

There is a three leafed clover which is called a shamrock. It is green and people in Ireland wear shamrock on St Patricks day. They say that if you don’t wear green in Ireland when they celebrate St Patricks day they get a pinch. The shamrock is now used as emblem in Ireland.

He spend twentyeight years going across the world to spread the word of God. He died on the seventeenth of March 461 AD at the age of seventy six.

Andrea_ Best Weekend

WALT: write a recount with focus on “expensive” words.

WAITANGI DAY
Earlier this month, my family was fussing about getting ready to go somewhere. It was a Friday morning and there was no school. My sister and I stayed home to look after my baby brother because the others were gone shopping for clothes. They came back and they bought my sister and I polkadotted dresses. We put them on and it fitted perfectly. Finally we were all ready and took both of our cars.

We appeared at my nans place and waited for them to get ready. I was bored during the wait. Then my mum spoke, “Hop in the car, we’re going now.” Not everyone could fit so we had to take 3 cars. A few moments later, we came to a place called the Alfriston Botanic Gardens. The car that I was in arrived first, so we had to wait patiently in the car for the rest to come. I asked why we were there and my mum said “we’re just going to take photos. Time went by and the rest of the family showed up. In the front of the building, there was an immense sculpture.

Next to the sculpture was a bewildering waterfront. We took a photo there. We had a proper camera but my brother left it back at home so my aunty used her phone. On the right side, there were 2 boats filled with dazzling flowers. All the boys took photos there. Then we went exploring to the back of the building. There were Sunflowers, Cactuses and plenty more. There was also a tree called a dragon tree. I was astonished because I learned something new. It clicked to me why it was called a dragon tree. It’s because their leaves are as sharp as a dragons teeth.

We came to a bridge where there were ducks in the background, we thought it would be an spectacular place to take a few photos. After a few snaps, we kept on moving.

Soon afterwards, we came to an area called the childrens garden. I took photos with my brother in an egg-shell. We came to a place where there was a towering, straw house. We also took photos there. Beside the straw house, there was a pocket sized pond full of tadpoles. We went to a desert-like place and took photos near plenty of cactuses. There was a maze in the childrens area as well.

There were 2 huge maori statues and there was a maori book written only in maori. We took photos there too. On our way back to the cars, it was pouring. But luckily, it wasn't heavy. We scurried to the cars. As the cars were leaving, a lady asked us if we could help her start her car. So my mum used her jumper leads to start their car. She thanked us and then we were on our way back to my nans house. Stayed there till sundown and we went back home. As a first timer, it was an extraordinary experience.

Shanelle- Practise Cricket

WALT: practice cricket.

In this game I learnt how to play cricket on the computer. I had to hit the ball to get a six, four or a two. It was easy and fun to play. I would like to play cricket in real life. We are solving problems in cricket this week because it is the Cricket World Cup 2015. Also  we are part hosts.
