Ketura- Maths Enlargement

Today we had to enlarge a picture that we had chosen, to draw on the asphalt outside. First, I had to draw my grid on a paper, to see what it would like on the ground. The next day, we all had to go outside to measure and draw our grid. My grid was a 7 by 9 grid. The picture that I had to enlarge outside on the asphalt was an elephant.

To draw my picture using my grid, I had to count the squares while drawing my elephant accurately. I worked out my scale factor which was: 1cm represented 30cm. Enlarging a picture on the asphalt was difficult because some of the things that I drew were in the wrong place.

Tane- Enlargement

webcam-toy-photo2.jpg

Yesterday we were learning about enlargement. Our task today for maths was to enlarge a picture of an ant, hat, dinosaur, or lion. As you can see I tried to enlarge a picture of an ant it sorta came as I pictured it but I drew the last part of the ant to big. The little picture of the ant is 9 centimeters and the large picture of the ant is 18 centimeters so the scale factor is 2. I had to count each square on each picture as I started to draw the larger ant so the measurements could be as precise as possibly. I found this drawing activity a bit difficult because the legs and the circle at the end was hard to get in the exact spots. After doing this activity I would like to learn more about co - ordinates.

Heather- What's my "WHY"

These are my goals, in the background on the newspaper template is my 'WHY'. I really had fun making this, I was very happy because I had the chance to be creative and use my imagination to create this. I am proud of my creation and am happy that it turned out how it is. If you cannot see the picture, you are more than welcome to click on this link.

Walt: create and name tessellation patterns.

Today in our class we learnt about tessellation. Tessellation is a pattern that has no gaps or overlaps, which means that everything fits perfectly. You also have to name a tessellation, by doing that you must pick a vertex (point) anywhere of the pattern. Count how many shapes are linked to the same point and count the sides of the shape. Start from the smallest number. This tessellation here is 4.6.6.12.

Excellence in Sports. A 2016 Manaiakalani Film Festival Entry.

Where's Christopher? A 2016 Manaiakalani Film Festival entry

Explanations, procedures, reports and narratives - so many text types and just one way to do, right?  By writing it all down, right?  Wrong!  Our class contemplated and collaborated, experimented and blended (our learning) and then the light bulb exploded into a beautiful bright light.  Today we were going to show our teacher that narratives could be fun and exciting to compile. Compile a narrative? Yes, our narrative was going to be a movie. Now you 21st century, critical thinking, digital natives out there, set your SAMR models and Multi-Modal learning aside and find where the hell is Christopher!

Andrea- Haiku

We were learning about Haiku's. Haiku's are Japanese Traditional Poems. There are three lines in a Haiku Poem. They also have rules. 1. They must have 17 syllables (5,7,5)
                                           2.  It has to be a seasonal reference
                                           3. It has to have a cutting point in the first or second line. (-,.!?)
I was in a group and we created our own Haiku.

Alyssa- Inspiration

Brooke Neal has achieved her goal. When she was in year 12 she set a goal for herself "Go to 2016 Rio Olympics" and she made it. While she was in Rio she made a chart with things she would to. One of them had "I am powerful." She said it to herself everyday while she was there. Her brother Shay is a hockey player too, She followed in his footsteps because she said that he was so inspiring to her. Brooke Neal has inspired me not to give up on my goals.
