Walt: Write fractions in the lowest terms.

I know how to write fractions in their lowest terms because I know my timetables very well. My strategy to figuring out what's a the simplest form to 5/10 I would use my five times tables to figure out the answer because 5 divide by 5 equals one, so you put one in the numerator so 5 divide by 10 equals two.then you put your answer to that goes in the denominator so all that equals to ⅕. I thought it was challenging because I tried to beat my time but I didn’t. I only beat my score and my medals. You could make it more hard if you add tricky fractions in the game that what makes me think. Next I would like to improve my speed at forming the fractions lowest forms.

Pyramids

The Egyptians believed that once that have died they would have an afterlife. Afterlife is a place where the dead could roa forever and forever.A priest touched the mummy’s mouth with a special instrument, so that the dead could eat and speak in the afterlife. But not everyone were mummified and put into a pyramid. It was based on the death on the royal people.

Before putting the dead person into a coffin, there was a process needed. You had to wash the dead body. Next the inside of the body was taken out of them and put into 4 special jars. Then the brain was pulled out through the nose. A pile of salt were set out around the corps. Then the insides were stuffed with rags and herbs. Finally rubbed with oil and wrapped with bandages.  

The pyramid of Giza is believed to have taken 20 to 30 years. It was believed to use about 2,300,000 blocks of stone. Also about 100,000 slaves. It took about 10 years to build a cause connecting the pyramid to a temple and a valley below. It was 480 feet high and 750 feet long each side.

Pyramids are not in one place, they are scattered all around Egypt. Pyramids are distributed to the Upper and Lower parts of Egypt. The pyramid of Giza, one of the seven wonders is still standing. It stands on the outside of Cairo. Also along the Nile river.

The first pyramid was built by a king called sneferu. He became king as a young man. He had many years to live that made him have plenty of time to make not just one but three pyramids in two different places in Egypt. One at Meidum and two at Dashur.

Mary Reflections of Term 1 learning

Walt: reflect on my learning.

My reflections for term 1

This week we had to do three tests. We had tests on number and measurement, geometry and  statistics and also reading.

On Tuesday I had a reading test. I got a 3B on my reading which was awesome because I’m improving. I know the different language used in poetry and figurative speech and make use of previous knowledge. Next term I will have to work on finding and retrieving information. I will work on my gaps by doing my homework and reading more books to help me understand why the author wrote the story.

After the reading test we did the number and measurement test. In this test I got a 4B which means I can go to the green group for maths. I did really well with using equations to represent practical situations and continue the order of the pattern and write the rule. I have to work to devise a strategy to solve a whole number problem and to work on making sensible statements about a statistical investigations. I will try and do homework to get better.

Today we  did a test in geometry and statistics. I got a 3B and I was so proud of myself because I thought that I forgot how to do geometry and statistics but when it came to the test I remembered everything. I did really well on describing the features of 2D and 3D objects using the language of geometry and designing and making pattern using translation, reflection and rotation. In geometry and statistics I have to work on  grid references. I will improve by trying my best with the homework and getting help from others.

For term two my goal is to get above national standards and try to get 4A.

Accurate Measurements by Mary

This week in technology we are learning how to construct a joint. Every Monday mornings the year 7 students go to Tamaki College. We go by bus to Tamaki College.

The first process was planning. I found the planning very easy because all we had to do was think of what you are going to make. I drew my five ideas. All the measurements has to be accurate. If you make a mistake your project will be ruined.

The second process was to learn the safety rules. The first and most important rule is don’t fiddle because if you fiddle you’re not going to finish your work or pay attention to the teacher. The next rule was stools in. If your stool is not in Mr. Grundy will take the stool away from you and you would have to stand up for the whole lesson. The final rule is closed shoes. If you don’t have closed shoes you could get hurt when using tools and it won’t be Mr Grundy’s fault it would be your fault because you didn’t follow the rules. Following the rules is really important because if you don’t you're going to get yourself hurt.


I enjoy technology because we get to do lots of fun stuff and my classmates enjoy it, too. I think we should stay at hard materials because it just so much fun and the things we make we get to keep.
