Shanelle- Thank You Poem

Dear Manager

You help us out
At our school
By donating bread
Which is really cool

We use them for sandwiches
For the children who come to school with no food
It keeps the children
In a happy mood

Families take them home
At the end of the day
And when they receive it
They say “hooray”

When we come to
Pak ‘n Save
We never say thank you
Because we aren’t brave

So I hope you appreciate
Me saying this
Thank you for all your help
And your kindness.

Andrea- Estimation: Chains

Length of Chains

WALT: 1. Arrange length in order.
2. Find mean, median, mode, range.
3. Explain the differences in length.

Pairs
Length of Chain in centimeters
Ben and Dion
86
Wesley and Koliata
169
Lorenzo and Liam
170
Ifa and Tane
192
Alyssa and Shanelle
192
Andrea and Lana
200
Ketura  and Serena
220
Stephanie and Cherish
286
Petuana and Yazmin
304
Munokoa and Samuel
320
Viliami and Howard
383

Mean = 229.3
Median = 200
Mode = 192
Range = 297

I think the lengths are different because of the strategy we used for cutting the paper. Some of them cut it from the length and others chose to cut from the width. Viliami and Howard probably made the longest chain because they took the time to measure and cut their strips evenly. Ben and Dion one was short because their strips of paper were big and used up most of the paper.

Alyssa- Double Bar Graph

Work.png

WALT: Use online tools to draw a double bar graph.
Watched Didn’t watch
B:10 B:3
G:5 G:7

I made this bar graph to show how many girls and boys did/didn’t watch the RWC final. Frist our teacher told us to put our hands up if we watched it or we didn’t. There were more boys than girls that watched the game because 10 students didn’t watch the game and 13 students that did. I think the boys watch it more than girls because they have a lot of interest in it, and most girls don’t watch it because they have no interest. Everyone in the class predicted a score but Robin was the closest his on was 32-17.

Dances around the world

Room 11 Dances around the world.

This year Room 11 studied Dances from around the world.  The students decided to learn a dance from a different country and then teach it to others. This is the learning we show in our video.  While learning to do that, we also learnt how to green-screen.  That was very cool!

Petuana- A career with the All Blacks

WALT: Research jobs with the All Blacks.

I’d want to be a dietitian for the All Blacks because I would be able to make them fit and healthy for their games and I’d be able to make sure that they eat well and that they are in good shape. I would also be able to write down, plan and pick the sorts of good nutritious food that they can eat.  But the reason why I’d want to be a dietitian is so that I can hang out with them and be really good friends.

Benjamin- Milo Mug Design

Screenshot 2015-08-14 at 13.51.38.png

In Art We had to design that was based on NZ. First we had to draw our design on a paper for draft, Before we draw our design we choose a NZ design from the internet but add more detail so your design can be your own. Then you draw your design on a cup then outline to make it darker then you are finished.

But the most amazing thing about it is that it has burning red eyes. And it has big stocky body almost like a bulldog. Its manuvable . The black Piranha hunt alone. It has an average size. The teeth is one of the sharpest in the world.

Yazmin- New Flag for New Zealand

Screenshot 2015-09-03 at 11.02.53 AM.png
In my point of view I like the second one shown above. I like how it has the old flags colours and I like how it also has the 4 stars. It really makes up the whole flag. I think it represent New Zealand because of the silver fern. New Zealand is known for their silver ferns and it is easier to recognise. Unlike the old flag, people were getting mixed up because NZ’s flag was so similar to Australia's flag. I really hope they choose the second flag.

Ifa - Decimat

`
First Picture: 1 whole is divided into tenths
Second Picture: 1 whole is divided into hundredths
Third Picture: 1 whole is divided into thousandths

First we had to play a game. In this game you had to roll two dice. The easy part was when you had to colour it in. So if you got five over hundredths then you colour then you colour in five in the hundredths sheet or mat. In the first picture the purple represents one tenth. In the second photo, the green in the left right corner represents five hundredths. In the last photo the black represents two thousandths. The next thing I'd like to learn is to know how to use the place values to solve problems with decimals.

Andrea- Black Piranha: Descriptive Writing

The Black Piranha
WALT: write a descriptive paragraph.

My father (Carlos Fitarez) has many interests in different animals, mammals, etc. It started when he was a little boy. He read a lot of books about animals which motivated him to find other facts about these species. During one of his, so called, journeys, a friend of his was telling my father about a different kind of fish he’d never heard of before. Carlos did his research before he left for adventure.

Carlos was floating through one of South America’s rivers as he was told that this is where the black piranhas were located. He grabbed out his fishing rod and put his bait on the hook and waited for a black piranha to eat the bait.
        Finally he caught one. As soon as it was in his hands, he grabbed his camera and described nearly everything about the black piranha;

The Black Piranha is a very distinctive species. They have burning red eyes with a stocky body. They’re very dark in colour and have a superb set of gnashes. Almost bulldog like in appearance. It isn’t a long type of fish. It is maneuverable which means it move incredibly quickly. It does not hunt in packs as traditionally believed, they actually hunt on their own.  Because they’re fast and have one of the sharpest teeth on earth, it makes it easy for them to hunt. Piranhas have tatty tails and fins because their cannibalistic. They are not afraid to eat their own kind. They would take big chunks out of the piranha, leaving the fish alive.

As soon as he finished recording it, he let the piranha go and then uploaded the video to youtube and got over 500k views in a week.

Andrea - Role Model

WALT: Write a topic sentence and related facts.

Role Models

A role model is someone you aspire to or are interested in what they do. They would be the person I would like to be. In other words, a role model is a person who inspires me to follow my dreams and set good goals for my future.

The person I look up to in my family is my dad. Although we’re not a rich family, I enjoy good  food, clothes on my back and shoes on my feet. My dad is committed to hard work and enjoys providing for our family. He works five days a week and spends time with us during the weekends. He’s a fun loving dad, who would help anyone, provided he can do so safely.

Another role model would be Yazmin because she is intelligent, kind, she is always on task and is devoted to hardwork. She has a few talents like drawing, being a team player and helping me out when I ask for help. She behaves well in class and is easy to start a conversation with.

My role model in the community is Manu Bennett. He is a famous NZ actor who I look up to because I enjoyed watching “The Arrow” in which he stars in and I’ve always dreamt of being an actress since I was a little girl. Manu Bennett acts as a villain on the TV series and his acting skills made the programme very exciting.

I believe I have chosen a group of strong willed people as my role models and would like to think that I will one day meet Manu Bennett.

Today in the morning we went to hockey. A lady named Lydia was coaching us. First we did a warm up and then we went to go sit behind a hockey stick. Before we started Lydia told us about a safety rule. She told us to keep the hockey stick below our knees and to also bend your knees so you won’t get a sore back.

Petuana - Milo Mug

WALT: Design our own New Zealand milo mug.

Last Friday, I started to create my own milo cup. First, I had to plan what my designs would look like on my cup, then, once my teachers were happy with my design they gave me a cup to start on and I outlined my designs on the cup then with a whiteboard marker I went over it and finished my designs. My milo cup had to have New Zealand flavour, so New Zealand designs. Today I just finished creating it and it's looking neat!

Lauren- Learning Hockey

FullSizeRender.jpg

Today at 9:30 am my class and I went to play hockey. We got taught by a lady named lydia. The first thing she taught us was the safety tips. The first one was to always keep the stick on the ground at all times. The second one was to not swing the stick around to avoid hitting someone in the head. The first activity we did was follow the leader, you had to try lose your team. We played the other game called traffic light green meant go, orange meant slow down, red meant stop, purple meant reverse and silver meant super fast. Other game we played was you had to try hit the ball up and down on your stick. The last game we played was we had to run around the goal and try and hit it in the other goal. Lydia was so fun to work with and I can’t wait till next week.

Shanelle- Combined Story

Walt: write a combined story.

Pythons Taking Action

African pythons are known to be poisonous and very deadly, they also can have rapid speed on their prey. African pythons obviously live in Africa near the river side where most animals live. The python will eat any animal that it finds. They have scales as much as a fish, they also are really long. African pythons slither fast but quietly because they do not want their prey to notice them.

When python's search for its prey they go to the river as that is where all animals go to drink water. As the python soon reached the water it saw a hippo in the water and hippos are the most deadliest animals. Slithering out of the water it camouflages itself to hide away from the hippo. The python camouflaged the whole night waiting patiently for the hippo to go away.

As the night goes by, the hippo falls asleep. Thats when the python takes action. As midday comes by, it got ready for his ambush. When the springbok was in place it  waited for the correct timing and exploded out of the water for its jaw open wide. Squeezing the springbok and coiling around it the python soon swallowed it whole.

Pythons don’t need to eat for another whole year because the springboks are really huge. The more the pythons eat the longer they can survive without food. As soon as the year goes by the pythons start to hunt for food again. Pythons can also stay underwater for 15 minutes, if they need to breathe they will only put their nostrils out of the water.

Ifa- Writing ; Jack's Goal

Walt: Write a descriptive text.

Zoom!”. a ball just went in the air. Jack’s kick went through the other players. It skimmed one of the players hair and just went right through the goalkeeper's hands. It was as fast as a car speeding on a open road. The opponents were so scared, they couldn't even touch it.

Jack was celebrating his goal. Jack was hopping on one foot in a circle. He was fist pumping his hands in the air one by one. His team was rushing to him and jumping on his back. He did a backflip and ran up and down the field. He was walking like there was something in his left pocket. He screamed as loud as a lion’s roar.

The game was tied, Jack and the opposing team was  tired too. They couldn’t breathe. Jack felt like he had asthma from running and chasing the ball. Both teams felt like they were unfit. Some of the players waited for a little bit then started playing.

After three minutes Jack’s teammate stole the ball. He ran and passed it to Jack. Jack kicked it and it hit the goalkeeper’s head. The goalkeeper laughed and then suddenly he saw the ball rolling into the goal area. Jack couldn't believe it.

Another goal, another win. That was the last game of the season.

Petuana- Maths: Writing word Problems

Today In maths, I learnt how to write word problems for an equation. As you can see, the equation that I choose was the easiest. I choose it because I did not want to get stuck on a hard one and because I didn't know the answer to it or how to do it. While I was doing these two problems, I realized that I needed to know my nine and five times tables. fortunately, I did so that's why I found these problems easy. Next time, when I do problems like these, I want to challenge myself and do a harder one.

Petuana- Maori Art

This is my maori art work. I was inspired by Raewyn Harris. She is a teacher and an artist from Hawkes Bay. My art doesn't really look the same as her one, but I took some of her ideas and made it into my own maori art  work. From Raewyns art work, I drew the big leaf and most of the korus. I found this challenging at first, but then I found it easy. I really enjoyed doing maori art and next time I would like to draw samoan and tongan art.

On Friday we had jump rope. It was only a practice because our real one is on the 19th of June at the GI Centre. We do this to raise funds for the Heart Foundation. Everyone was having fun and all of the different class routines was amazing to watch. I enjoyed our one the best though it was not perfect.
